The Daily Bread project consists of a group of six researchers. Prof. dr. Maartje van Gelder initiated the project and coordinates it. The rest of the project team consists of: two PhD-candidates, one postdoctoral researcher, a research assistent and a guest researcher who is an expert in food systems.

Marieke Nolten is a PhD-candidate in the Daily Bread project. She completed her Bachelor and Research Master History at Leiden University. Her field of interest is the intersection of political and cultural history, in particular political unrest and memory culture . Within this project, she focusses on food protests in the Dutch Republic, with a special interest in the (de)construction of narratives about riots and rioters.
Marco is a PhD-candidate at the Daily Bread project, where he focuses on Northern Italy. He graduated at the University of Genoa, Italy (Università degli Studi di Genova) and completed an Erasmus at the Cantabrian University, Spain (Universidad de Cantabria). His research focuses on food protests in the cities of Northern Italy during the early modern period, starting from the Genoese case.
Işın is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Daily Bread project, where she focuses on the Ottoman Empire. She was a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at the Rijksmuseum and previously taught as a lecturer at Yale University (CT, USA). She completed her Ph.D. in History at Yale University in 2022. Her dissertation, ‘’A History of the Ottoman Atlas: The Material Culture of Geographical Knowledge in the Ottoman Empire’’, examined material manifestations of scientific changes in Ottoman atlases.
Lennart is a research assistent at the Daily Bread project. He completed his BA in Dutch Language and Culture at Utrecht University and is finishing his RMA in Dutch Literature and Culture, also at Utrecht University. His research interests focus on early modern Dutch literature and cultural history, in particular in relation to political-religious unrest and knowledge culture within urban environments.
